Curious Old Pewter Cradle Shaped Box with Baby! painting of boy with pipe Sold as found unframed but

Sold as found unframed but I think in a dark would frame this would really sing

Box measures 8 3/4" x 6 1/4" x 2 11/16" t

but the wood panel on the backside is easily removed to fill the frame with other things

but structurally just fine

I'll never get over the charm of these old German "Erzgebirge" wooden villages

A box for storing silver diaper pins? A container for a child's ashes? A mold? I really have no idea, but find it quite an evocative and slightly haunting object. Definitely pewter and I assume British, with a mark that looks to read ICH together with a lion. If you know more than I do about this, please share! 4 9
