the gray and brown I believe are painted and etched hardwood

with these wonderfully large

with just a very few incised details for the eyes

and at 7 5/8" long x 2 3/4" wide x 2 1/2" tall

I think it makes for quite a satisfying tabletop object just on its own--the wood is beautiful and the elongated egg form really elegant--though it would be fun to see it put to use as the topper for a whole new construction

Based on the manner of the carving, I believe they are likely Puerto Rican, early 20th century. The paint has aged and eroded in quite a wonderful, almost miraculous feeling way, especially the color on his robe, showing a combination of baby blue and a verdigris sort of green, as well as bare wood in spots.
