MA (more below) and was commissioned by one of the Dummers as a model of sorts of the original colonial era fulling mill on the property--built by John Pearson on the Mill River

one of which runs down the center of the body

and with a tiny hole in the handle for threading to hang

perhaps straight from the his front lawn

There is a triangle of discoloration along the top on the reverse that makes it look as if it might be a fold

Elegant, Intricate Folk Art Ship in a Bottle lemon gold frame MA (more below) and wasI never ceased to be amazed by ships in bottles, and love the intricacy of the wooden masts and yards, and threaded rigging on this tall ship combined with its overall elegance and simplicity. Because of the height of those masts touching the top of the bottle it does not balance squarely on its own, but a bit of wax (or I used tape) on the underside, or a simple stand would do the trick of steadying it for display. 9" l x 2 9 16" d.
