This is a very scarce example of an early 19th century militia shako or cap plate, measuring 3 3 4 X 4 5 8. This example retains the two soldered on iron loops to the reverse, and has a heavily tarnished patina overall. This example features the American Federal eagle clutching an olive branch and lightning, with a shield reading 1776 below him. Over the eagle is UNITY IS STRENGTH with the sunburst pattern and
