I picked up this astronomy book especially as it provides a nice guide to the constellations and the chief stars comprising them

which were altered with the addition of two different fortunes cut and pasted to each card

Perhaps by a young man and fellow student encouraging her to step out of her comfort zone

It seems just right to have been done on a cardboard barrel lid (Eaton Candy Co, Cooperstown NY), reminiscent of the painted hide of a drum or shield.
